Curriculum
'You see me. You hear me. I belong'
The Laurance Haines Curriculum has been designed to enable the children in our community to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. We want all of our children to connect with the statement: 'You see me. You hear me. I belong'. The curriculum is built upon 3 key pillars:
Our Beliefs and Promises
At Laurance Haines School, we believe in nurturing our community, providing keys to unlock opportunities and a better future for all.
We promise that our Laurance Haines community will:
NURTURE and to be nurtured;
RESPECT and be respected;
TRUST and to be trusted;
INNOVATE and to be innovative;
INSPIRE and be inspired, and,
Be given opportunities for CHOICE.
The Laurance Haines Curriculum has been designed and continues to evolve ensuring it is relevant and representative of our community. It pledges to uncover the hidden histories of the world, support challenging conversations about race, disability and gender and by supporting children to explore and celebrate diversity, including all identities, cultures and faiths. Our curriculum is the driver for our children to experience a sense of belonging in our school and wider community. Accredited as a National Nurturing School, the six principles of nurture are deeply entwined into the learning for our children. We have a strong and established nurturing ethos at Laurance Haines and the principles underpin all the work we do.
The Six Principles of Nurture
- Children's learning is understood developmentally.
- The classroom offers a safe base.
- Nurture is important for the development of self-acceptance .
- Language is understood as a vital means of communication.
- All behaviour is communication.
- Transitions are significant in the lives of children.
Through the implementation of the Laurance Haines Curriculum, teachers provide opportunities for pupil led learning which ultimately leads to agency for all. We know that the more agency our children have over their learning and experiences at Laurance Haines, the greater their sense of belonging and that is what we strive for every day.
